Located in the heart of Cyclades, Naxos, the largest island of the complex, promises to be drawn at the heart of
every visitor. The island is full of natural beauty and unique scents, rich and long history as well as endless
experiences that you will remember for a lifetime.
At your first sight of Chora of Naxos you will come across the legendary Portara which is located on the small island
of Palatio and it constitutes the marble entrance of an unfinished temple dedicated to the ancient god Apollo. It
stands there imposingly and welcomes you to the island while it ranks among the most famous sightseeing in Naxos that
travellers choose for photo shooting. At Chora of Naxos, everything seems to be designed naturally in order to
create an amazing result. It is a totally white colored capital, typical of the Cyclades, consisting of small
cobbled roads in front of traditionally built houses with the Venetian coat of arms that lead you straight to
the famous Venetian castle of Chora. Your journey in time though is not about to be limited so easily, as inside
the castle you will have the chance to visit the famous Archaeological museum with a great collection of exhibits
that will guide you back in time. That is the main reason that the Cycladic and Naxian culture are widely considered
as great contributors to the Late Neolithic era.
In every moment of your stay in the island, the numerous traditional villages are inviting you to visit them.
Apeiranthos is famous for the traditional stone houses, the colorful piazzas and the five museums. On the other
hand Chalki village was the old commercial capital of the island, Sagkri village with its three districts and Kambos
in the village Kato Sagkri are places that worth to visit. You may have heard of Kambos as “Mikros Mystras” as it
is full of old Byzantine chapels. Enjoy relaxing moments at the blue seas of the Aegean by selecting one of the
beautiful golden beaches of the island: Agios Georgios, Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka, Mikri Vigla, Aliko,
Pyrgaki and Agiasou. The wide variety of the island’s beaches will persuade even the most demanding travellers!
Naxos history and tradition is also combined with a cultural activity that takes place during the whole year, with
concerts, traditional festivals and dramatic performances. We strongly recommend you to visit the island during the
period of the famous festival of Naxos at the Tower of Bazaios, Dionisia, or the Fisherman’s festival at the Apollo.
Of course we couldn’t forget to mention the words of the famous Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis after his visit at
Naxos island: “If heaven was a place in earth it would be here….” .
